Inquiry-living things

"A living thing has to consume, grow, breathe, adapt to its environment and perish."
                                                 room 8 2015
My project was about Komodo dragons.
I got my information from Google because I couldn't find any books about them.
My nanna helped me by suggesting to glue sticks on the cardboard.
I like reptiles quite a lot, but I wanted to choose something different-something you'd be less likely to know about.
My favourite fact is that when they are hatched they climb trees for safety but can't climb when they get older.
If I wanted to improve next time I probably would have done some of the other monitor lizards it is related to.

How does Russia celebrate Christmas?☃

Religion
The main religion in Russia is named Russian orthodox.
They believe in Jesus and Mary and the religion has been around for more than one-thousand years.

Food
The food they eat usually depends on the wealth of the family.
The Russians main food for Christmas is hot roast pirog, Russian pies(made from meat or cabbage) and pelmeni meat dumplings.
Tradition
A few weeks before Christmas many don't eat meat, eggs or milk and on the day before Christmas they hardly eat anything. They also setup the trees while children are sleeping.

Songs and carols
Children go from door to door singing carols to earn sweets.

Super bowl-good for ESPN
Paeroa-taste good with lemon
Rarotonga-surfs up!
In case of a burn wear sunblock-keeps you cool
Never let the weather stop you walking the dog-unless the dog stops you!
Great time to ready for summer-get the pool ready for the sun

We also made some butterflies and then dyed them.here is one of the three I made;
Some country's celebrate Easter in spring where the egg represents new life.
Some people just celebrate Easter for the chocolate eggs!

Poetry workshop

WALT: Find the hints of hidden messages written by authors in poems.

Why:Authors don't always tell us.
Eg.  What are  three ways in the poem that the friends who are hiding give a clue to where they are?
Finding a secret closing door
Wriggling a blanket
Some ones foot outside a corner

Eg. What does it mean when the poet says, "friends sound like feathers"?
They are very quiet.

Writing

We are learning to write a formal letter.
We wrote to the Hastings District Council and we told them our opinion about the changing speed limit on the Hastings-Clive road.
The speed limit in my opinion should be at least 90-100 because some people don't like being slowpoke and 90 is more safe.
